Prof. Israel Yeruhamisrael yeruham

1946-2005

Israel Yeruham was born in Romania in 1946 and immigrated to Israel with his parents at the age of three. He pursued his high-school education at the Kfar Hayarok Agricultural School. Israel studied Veterinary Medicine in Bern, Switzerland, and in 1974 he was qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon. In 1995, he completed his Ph.D under the mentorship of Prof. Eugene Pipano. His doctorate was on sheep babesiosis and the ecology of its tick vector, Rhipicephalus bursa.

Israel Yeruham practiced for 30 years as an agricultural veterinary doctor in Israel. He started working as a veterinarian at the Department of Parasitology at the Kimron Veterinary Institute, and thereafter worked at the "Hachaklait" for 28 years.

Since 1986, Prof. Yeruham taught generations of students at the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine of the Hebrew University. His specialty fields included entomology, parasitology and dermatology and he published more than 150 articles in national and international scientific journals.  His great passion was photography and he took myriads of slides documenting this fascinating world of veterinary medicine, which he incorporated into his lectures.

Prof. Yeruham was killed during a trip to Papua New Guinea in 2005, leaving behind a wife and 3 children.

This website documents many of the photos taken by Prof. Yeruham during his work.  We built this site as a living memorial of Prof. Yeruham's work and a token of appreciation for his contribution to the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine. We hope it will serve many students and veterinarians in Israel and worldwide.
